Samos Greece

Samos is an island in the North Aegean Sea and one of the East Aegean Islands. Its capital is the town of Samos, formerly known as Vathi. Samos is an island shaped by legend and beauty. It is the island of the father of mathematics, Pythagoras, the astronomer Aristarchus and the philosopher Epicurus. It is the home of Hera and the land that welcomed Herodotus and Aesop. An important centre of trade in the Aegean and a major naval power in antiquity, it came into contact with many of the Mediterranean’s great cultures. Its closeness to the coast of Asia Minor makes the island a “bridge” between the two cultures, a difference that has never stood in the way of the coexistence, cooperation and friendship of the two peoples who live across the water from each other.
