Annemasse France

Annemasse is a town in the Haute-Savoie department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of eastern France. Although it covers a relatively small area (4.98 km² / 1.92 sq mi), it is the second most populous town in Haute-Savoie after the prefecture, Annecy, with 36,250 residents as of 2018. Annemasse is an important crossroads. It’s the last exit on the French A40 motorway before the Swiss border and is therefore well linked to other cities in the region. It’s also connected to Annecy via the A41 motorway. Known as a gateway to Switzerland and set at the foot of two mountains, Mont Salève (1,375 m) and Les Voirons (1,400 m), the Annemasse area enjoys a privileged location as the natural outlet for the mountain valleys of northern Haute-Savoie. Local shops and markets make it easy to get your shopping done and to discover regional produce. Annemasse is very much a modern city where you can, among other things, explore contemporary art at the Villa du Parc contemporary art centre. The town offers a lively artistic, sporting and cultural scene, with dance, theatre and concerts. Each year you can enjoy a range of leisure activities and traditional pursuits: a sailing centre (with an Olympic-size swimming pool), tennis, golf, squash, karting, bowling, helicopter or plane trips to take in the region’s magnificent scenery, and paragliding. The cable car up Mont Salève is an absolute must. You can also unwind in the parks and gardens, explore a variety of trees, plants and flowers, and make use of children’s play areas.
