L’Estartit Spain

L’Estartit is a semi-autonomous locality within the municipality of Torroella de Montgrí. It has around 2,962 inhabitants (2015) and generates about 60% of the municipality’s income through tourism. A little over a kilometre from the Medes Islands archipelago, it relies heavily on dive tourism for much of the year. Behind the town rises the Roca Maura peak, where the Montgrí massif begins and stretches up to eight kilometres inland, dividing the region into Upper and Lower Empordà. From L’Estartit you can take walking routes that start with a steep climb just five minutes from the town centre. It’s set in an ideal location, with a wide sandy beach, easy access, and a free parking area beside the shore. The waters are shallow, making it particularly suitable for children. To the south, the mouth of the River Ter is separated from the town by a wetland area.
