Day 1: Quito – Zuleta – Otavalo: Zuleta Experience
Your journey begins with a scenic drive through green mountains, patchwork fields, and picturesque villages as you leave Quito behind. Upon arrival in Zuleta, you’ll be warmly welcomed by a local community guide and experience life as a guest, not a tourist. Stroll along quiet streets lined with whitewashed houses and blooming gardens before visiting a local artisan’s home for an exclusive embroidery workshop. Learn Zuleta’s world-famous techniques (fill stitch, chain stitch, and cord stitch) and create your own handcrafted souvenir to take home. This hands-on cultural experience offers genuine connection, creativity, and unforgettable memories. Enjoy a delicious three-course traditional lunch prepared with fresh local ingredients, featuring Andean grains, tubers, and ancestral recipes, served either as a communal pamba mesa or set menu. In the afternoon, visit the Casa Museo Karangue to explore ancestral history, traditional adobe construction, ancient looms, and archaeological treasures. Take part in a fun Adobe-making activity for a truly authentic touch. End your day with an overnight stay at a beautiful historic hacienda surrounded by mountains. Colonial charm, peaceful gardens, and pure Andean serenity await. Overnight in Otavalo.
Day 2: Otavalo: Natural Andean Landscapes & Traditional Market
Discover the highlights of Ecuador’s northern Andes on this full-day cultural and nature experience. Your adventure begins at the breathtaking Laguna de Cuicocha, a stunning crater lake nestled inside an ancient volcano. Walk along scenic trails with panoramic views of its deep blue waters and twin islands, while your expert guide shares fascinating insights into its volcanic origins and cultural importance. A perfect moment to connect with nature and capture unforgettable photos. Next, visit a traditional Andean instrument workshop and discover how charangos, quenas, and zampoñas are handcrafted. Learn about the artistry behind these ancestral instruments and enjoy a short live performance that brings Andean music to life. Continue to the iconic Plaza de los Ponchos, South America’s most famous indigenous market. Explore vibrant stalls filled with handwoven textiles, ponchos, jewelry, and authentic handicrafts, ideal for unique souvenirs and meaningful cultural encounters.
